A4384231 Tequila Ike is a phenomenal two year old
brown male shorthaired Chihuahua who was found in
Baldwin Park on January 6th and brought to the Baldwin
Park shelter. Weighing six and one-half pounds, he walks
beautifully on leash and appears to be well-trained. He
gets along well with other dogs. A happy little lapdog,
Tequila Ike will be the perfect indoor pet for an individual
or family living in an apartment or condo, and would be a
great companion for a senior or retired person.

A4384089 Claudette is an outgoing, kissy one and one

half year old black and white female Pit Bull who was

found in Baldwin Park on January 5th and brought to the

shelter. Weighing fifty-two pounds, Claudette walks okay

on leash, knows the “sit” and “down” commands and is

probably housebroken. She is good with other dogs.

Claudette has a medium-to-high energy level and a

constantly wagging tail, and will be the perfect indoor pet

for an active individual or family living in a private home.

black male Dachshund/Pit Bull mix puppy who was found
in Hacienda Heights on January 4th and brought to the
Baldwin Park shelter. Weighing twenty-six pounds, Max
walks okay on leash and will be spectacular with a little
more training to channel his puppy energy. He loves other
dogs and wants to play all the time. He is a kissy boy who
adores belly rubs. Max will be the perfect indoor pet for
any household whatsoever, and we think he’ll be

A4383292 Amy is a patient, gentle five year old red and
white spayed female Dogue de Bordeaux who was found
in West Covina on January 4th and brought to the Baldwin
Park shelter. Weighing seventy-eight pounds, Amy walks
well on leash, knows “sit”, is and is probably housebroken.
She is selective about her canine friends. Amy has a lowto-medium energy level and a comical underbite and will be the perfect indoor pet for an individual or family living in

on January 2nd and brought to the Baldwin Park shelter.
Slightly underweight at six pounds, Pepe walks beautifully
on leash. He is outgoing and friendly with other dogs of all
sizes. Pepe will be the perfect indoor pet for an adult

brindle Boxer puppy who was found in Rosemead on
December 28th and brought to the Baldwin Park shelter.
Weighing thirty-seven pounds, this affectionate boy walks
okay on leash, and very quickly learned how to sit for
treats. This “anti-aloof” puppy thinks he is a lap dog. He
adores children and has been good with all the dogs we’ve
introduced him to. Joe Lewis is an outstanding puppy who
is going to make a fabulous indoor pet and running

A4381061 Honda is a soulful one year old blue female
Cane Corso puppy who was confiscated as part of a
hoarding situation on December 28th. Weighing eightytwo pounds, this fabulous dog walks extremely well on
leash and seems quite well socialized. She was living
with other big dogs and got along fine with them. Honda
has a low energy level and is going to make a wonderful
indoor pet for an adult family living in a private home.

year old brown brindle Boxer/Mastiff mix who was found in
West Covina on December 21st and brought to the
Baldwin Park shelter. Weighing seventy-four pounds, this
handsome, well-behaved boy pulls a bit on leash and
needs additional training, but we do think he is
housebroken. Tony likes other dogs and wants to play,
but the other dogs seem to be overwhelmed by his size
and enthusiasm. Quiet and with a medium energy level,
Tony will be the perfect indoor pet for an active individual

A4374988 Homer is a calm and affectionate one year old
white and red male Boxer mix puppy who was found in
emaciated condition in the City of Industry on December
16th and brought to the Baldwin Park shelter. Weighing
fifty pounds he is underweight and needs to gain ten to
fifteen pounds. Homer walks well on leash and although
he doesn’t know any commands is well socialized. He is
good with other dogs and we think he will be good with
children. Soulful and handsome, with a medium energy
level, Homer will be the ideal indoor pet for an individual or

A4063655 Gasper is a calm two year old cream and tan male Miniature Poodle mix who was dumped at theBaldwin Park shelter in horribly neglected condition by his former owner on December 27th because the former owner was moving and made no provisions for his wonderful dog. He walks well on leash and has probablybeen trained. Gasper is good with other dogs and we aresure he will be great with kids. Gasper was painfully matted and filthy, and one of our volunteers took him to the grooming room and washed and shaved him down to make him comfortable. Everyone was impressed at how patient and sweet he was during this ordeal! Weighing forty pounds, Willie Mays is a staff favorite who has passed his shelter temperament test with flying colors. He was supposed to be adopted, but his adopter never returned to get him from the shelter. Willie Mays walks okay on leash but hasn‟t had any real training yet. He is responsive and eager to please, and adapts quickly. Willie Mays is a happy, easygoing puppy who will be a wonderful indoor family pet for a family living in a private home.

Lulu walks beautifully on leash and appears fully trained. Weighing seventy-eight pounds, Ozzie walks quite well on leash, is well socialized and is probably housebroken. A year and a half ago, when Ozzie was four months old, he bit someone - but we think it was more of a situation where he was puppy mouthy rather than anything aggressive. Ice has some kind of a skin condition (possibly hyperthyroidism, which is easily and cheaply treated) affecting his back legs and belly, which seemed to be causing him discomfort, but he was affectionate and looking for attention despite this. A4229418 Georgina is a stunning 2-year-old blue and
white female pit bull who entered the Baldwin Park shelter
as a stray on January 6th. This absolute doll is submissive
and rolls on her back for a good belly rub at every
opportunity. Full grown at approximately 65 lbs., Georgina
is interested in other dogs but has not exhibited any
aggression towards them. Like most pitties, she is 100%
love bug. Georgina also walks well on a leash and has a
medium energy level. Please open your heart to a loving
pittie girl and she will be a loyal best friend till the end!

A4229286 Bernice is a gorgeous 1-year-old blue and white
female pit bull who came into the Baldwin Park shelter as a
stray on January 6th. Sweet Bernice does not appear to
have had a good past, as her raw back paws indicate that
she may have been dragged. Bernice is frightened by the
stressful shelter life in which she now finds herself and
needs the comfort and safety of a loving home. Weighing
approximately 50-55 lbs., Bernice showed little interest in
other dogs and kept her tail tightly tucked for most of the
time that she was out of her kennel. She walked fine on a
leash, although we suspect it may have been her first leash
experience. This girl is a sensitive soul who is anxiously
awaiting a new life full of positive experiences. As we have
seen so many times in the past, these dogs blossom so
quickly when placed in a loving and nurturing environment.
Please consider providing that gift to this fantastic girl.

A4227499 Brunie is an incredible 3-year-old black and
brindle female (spayed) Doberman Pinscher mix who was
surrendered to the Baldwin Park shelter on December 30th.
We suppose her owners realized that they didn’t deserve her
and decided that 2011 should be a better year for this welltempered
girl. Brunie is a volunteer favorite, as she is
incredibly sweet, quiet, and obedient. Weighing
approximately 60 lbs., Brunie is affectionate and simply
adores people. She is energetic but listens intently and
wants to please. Brunie knows some commands and
showed us that she is also a master at the game of fetch.
Brunie was non-reactive to other dogs and seemed much
more focused on pleasing our volunteers! We adore this
dog, who deserves a kind and loving family that will
appreciate her unique good looks and fantastic personality!

who came to the shelter as a stray on December 28th. He weighs
approximately sixty pounds, but he doesn't know it and thinks he
is a lap dog! Tiger is extremely affectionate and gives kisses. He
is also quite energetic and seems to want to play with every dog
he sees. He is strong, but walks fairly well on the leash. Tiger is
very treat-motivated and attentive, and should be easy to train.
He will make a perfect companion for an active owner.

December 27th. Weighing eighteen pounds, this happy-go-lucky

A4226273 Brownie is a gorgeous chocolate and tan male
Tibetan Spaniel/long haired Chihuahua mix who came into
the Baldwin Park shelter as a stray on December 26th. This
7-lb. boy walks well on a leash and has a medium energy
level. Brownie loves to give kisses and loves to be held,
which is no surprise. He is fine with other dogs but like
many small dogs, tries to be a tough guy with bigger dogs.
Of course, Brownie is only trying to remind others of his
manliness! He is a happy-go-lucky kid whose tail is always
wagging enthusiastically. Brownie has a medium energy
level and has had some basic training as he knows the sit
command. Brownie is certainly not short of personality and
would love a human who can appreciate all he has to offer!

A4225989 Cupcake is a superb one-year-old brown and
white female Chihuahua mix puppy who came into the
Baldwin Park shelter as a stray on December 24th. This
polite little lady weighs about 5-6 lbs. and is a classic lap
dog. Cupcake is extremely sweet, hence the name!
Although timid initially, she warms up as soon as she finds
a cozy lap and will blossom in a safe, stable and loving
home. Cupcake gets along well with other dogs and walks
nicely on a leash. She is well-mannered and quiet, which
makes her a great candidate for apartment life. Adopt this
precious girl and you will have no regrets!

A4225988 Jasmine is the cutest 1-year-old black and white
female Chihuahua mix puppy who entered the Baldwin
Park shelter as a stray on December 24th. This 12 lb. girl is
timid and withdrawn at the moment, which is likely due to
the stressful shelter environment in which she has found
herself. Like most little Chihuahuas, Jasmine loves to be
held and needs to feel safe. She warms up quickly once she
knows she can trust you and will need consistent
reassurance and TLC to fully come out of her shell.
Jasmine gets along well with other dogs and has several
kennel mates. Because she is quiet and low-energy,
Jasmine would make an excellent apartment dog. Please
open your heart to a fragile little girl who will undoubtedly
return your love tenfold!

A4225987 Pete is a two-year-old Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier
mix who came to the shelter as a stray on December 24th. This
sweet, eighteen-pound boy is absolutely terrified at being in the
shelter. He is afraid to walk on the leash and much prefers to be
held close by his human. He seems to get along just fine with
other dogs. He desperately needs to get out of the shelter into a
stable home so he can come out of his shell and learn what it's
like to be loved and pampered.

A4225734 Stewart is a ridiculously cute 4-month-old
brown and black male Papillon mix puppy who came into
the Baldwin Park shelter as a stray on December 23rd. There
is simply nothing not to love about this lovely little boy.
Weighing approximately 8 lbs., Stewart will likely top out
at about 13-15 lbs. He is playful, affectionate and loves to
give kisses. A pleaser by nature, Stewart just wants to give
love and receive love in return. He has a spectacular
temperament, gets along famously with other dogs and was
described by one of our volunteers as an “absolute love
bug.” Stewart is smart, alert and easygoing, which makes
him a perfect candidate for a novice dog owner, but would
be an excellent companion for anyone.

A4225728 Clyde is a sixty-five-pound, one-year-old blue and
white male Pit Bull who came to the shelter as a stray on
December 23rd. This energetic boy is very friendly and
affectionate toward people and gets along perfectly with other
dogs. He walks well on the leash and knows the "sit" and "lay
down" commands. Clyde is food motivated and could likely be
taught almost any trick! He will make a fantastic hiking partner
for an active owner.

A4225598 Kyle is a 1-year-old red male Miniature Pinscher
mix puppy who came into the Baldwin Park shelter as a
stray on December 22nd. This little 8-lb. boy is frightened
by shelter life and is calmest when in the arms of a human,
where he can give kisses and feel safe. Kyle is underweight
and could stand to gain another few pounds to reach a
healthy weight. This poor guy was likely neglected and
needs a nurturing environment where he can feel secure
enough to come out of his shell. Kyle gets along fine with
other dogs but certainly would not mind being the only dog
in his adoptive home where he can monopolize all of his
human’s love and affection. Please open your home and

Rottweiler who came to the shelter as a stray on December 22nd.
Rambo is very strong and needs some training, but is very sweet,
friendly, and playful. He is affectionate toward people and seems
fine with other dogs of all sizes. This gorgeous boy will make a
wonderful companion for an owner living in a private home.

implies, Shadow is quiet and calm. He walks well on a
leash and is good with other dogs. Shadow is timid and
withdrawn as he is probably confused and stressed in the
shelter environment. Though initially scared, he warms up
quickly and seeks affection from people. Shadow is a
volunteer favorite and is in desperate need of love and TLC.

lb. little man has beautiful markings! Boomer plays well
with other dogs, has a medium to high energy level and will
likely grow to be approximately 20 lbs. Boomer is super
affectionate and loves a good belly rub. Boomer is still a
puppy and would benefit from basic obedience training. He
is smart and alert, however, and will be easily trained.
Boomer has a wonderful temperament and is looking for a
loving home where he will be walked regularly and
showered with affection. Preferably, he would also have a

partner! Like all puppies, Georgia would benefit from basic
obedience training and consistent exercise to channel her
puppy energy properly. Weighing about 20-25 lbs., Georgia
will probably grow to be about 40-45 lbs. In addition to her
wonderful personality, she is simply gorgeous and has sexy
black eyeliner! Georgia would love an active home with a

pins, Princess has a high energy level and is outrageously
playful! Weighing about 8 lbs., Princess is fully grown.
This little girl loves to be held, is incredibly affectionate,
and takes treats gently. Though energetic, Princess seems
to be rather quiet. She could use a bit of leash training, as it
is unlikely that she was properly walked in her former life.

bull puppy who came into the Baldwin Park shelter as a
stray on December 16th. This handsome fellow weighs
approximately 15 lbs. and is full of puppy energy! Henry
interacts well with other dogs and like most pitties is full of
affection and non-stop kisses. He will likely grow to be 55
lbs. as an adult. Henry is playful and his tail never seems to
stop wagging. He’s just a happy dude with incredible hazel
eyes that melt your heart. Henry’s only wish is to find an
active family with a yard and possibly another canine
buddy with whom he can frolic! With basic puppy
obedience training, Henry will surely be a super star!

and tan female (spayed) German Shepherd who was
surrendered to the Baldwin Park shelter on December 29th.
Clearly, Alice was just too good for her prior owners, as she
is pure perfection. Alice is calm, has a medium energy
level and walks well on a leash. She gets along well with
other dogs and is friendly with all. Alice enjoys giving
kisses and pleasing anyone and everyone. She knows some
commands and is the model of obedience. Alice is a happy
girl whose tail is always wagging. A bit underweight at 65
lbs., Alice could stand to gain 10 lbs. We simply LOVE
this dog, who would likely make a fantastic family
companion.

Weighing only eight pounds, she is incredibly sweet and adores

stray on December 8th. This smokey-colored gentleman is
incredibly people friendly and a perpetual tail wagger.
Simba is fantastic with other dogs, walks well on a leash

35-40 lbs., Simba is a sweet, loving, happy-go-lucky guy
with a fantastic disposition. He has a slight growth on the
side of his nose that appears to be just a congenital oddity
but we think it’s just an outward sign of his unique and
special nature. Simba is a gem of a dog and would make a
terrific companion for nearly anyone!

Chihuahua mix puppy who came into the Baldwin Park
shelter as a stray on December 6, 2010. This adorable
fellow has a medium energy level, weighs approximately
6-7 lbs. and has one of the most impressive underbites
we’ve ever seen! Tito loves other dogs and has several
kennel mates. In addition to his fantastic underbite he has
tiny little white socks on his paws and rocks the “one ear up
and one ear down” look like no other! Tito loves to be held
and sit in a cozy lap, but also enjoys a good walk. He’s still
a puppy and would benefit from some basic leash training.
Tito is a consummate pleaser and will be easily trained. He
would be a great choice for an apartment dweller!

Chico weighs approximately 12 lbs. and is a kissing bandit
who enjoys a warm and cozy lap. He would be in hog

This athletic little girl is outgoing, affectionate and energetic. At approximately 15 lbs. Lola gets along well with other dogs of her size but is intimidated by bigger dogs. This beauty is curious, alert and has a tail that is constantly wagging. Unfortunately for Lola, she was bred a couple of times and then abandoned by her owners. This regal beauty is an 80 lb. diamond in the rough! Blue Bell is high energy, loves to play fetch and would make a wonderful running partner. A 4199005 Zuke is a one-year-old male blue and white
Pit Bull who was abandoned at the shelter by his owner
on October 11th. Weighing around sixty-five pounds,
this high-energy boy is muscular and strong. He is
incredibly friendly toward people and sits on command.
He seems to like other dogs, but is a bit too playful when
he meets them and will need some training with
“introductions.” Zuke will make a fantastic jogging
partner for a strong, active owner with a private home
who will give him plenty of exercise, and who will enjoy
teaching him commands, leash walking, etc. Zuke is in

A 4108637 Sunny is an eighteen-month-old male black
Labrador Retriever mix who was surrendered to the
shelter by his owner on November 6th. He weighs
approximately seventy pounds and is described by our
volunteers as “a great dog.” Sunny is strong and active,
and he absolutely loves playing with other dogs. He
knows the “sit” command and takes treats very gently.
He would be a perfect dog for an active owner who

You may have heard about Margo's Bark Root Beer, http://www.margosbark.com/ the all natural cane sugar soda for humans which generates 100% of its profits for shelter dogs and rescue organizations. The root beer was invented by 8 year old Oscar Youd (cute kid) as part of his school science fair in 2008. He named it Margo's Bark after the family dog who had been rescued. Oscar and his family had so much fun, they decided to make the root beer commercially and see if they could help the cause of shelter dogs. A year later the Root Beer is available in Whole Foods Stores in SoCal, NV, AZ and HI; in Bristol Farms throughout SoCal; and also in a number of boutique markets in Los Angeles.

Getting into Whole Foods and Bristol Farms is a big deal for Margo's Bark, and the initial weeks in store are a critical period for long term success of the product. Margo's Bark has donated to several different rescues and recently donated funds to assist a cocker spaniel who needed eye surgery...the rescue community would love to see them succeed and do more of this.

If you get a chance, stop in to your local Whole Foods or Bristol Farms and buy a four pack or two. If you're not into Root Beer, pick up a t-shirt... go on online, you can even order the soda from their website!

HELP MURPHY!

Murphy was brought to the Baldwin Park Shelter on February 12th by his family because he had lost the use of his back legs. Animal Advocates Alliance rescued Murphy and discovered that he had a bulging disc in his spine that was causing pressure on the nerve and resulting in the loss of feeling in his back legs. AAA was told that Murphy had to have spinal surgery to repair the disc immediately, or he would likely never regain his ability to walk. Murphy had surgery on his spine at U.C Davis Small Animal Clinic in Northern California. The neurosurgeon was able to repair the disc and Murphy has been in AAA foster care ever since. Although Murphy is not yet able to walk, he has shown some voluntary movement in his back legs and tail!! He has also regained his ability to pee on his own, as evidenced by the number of times he has peed on his foster parents! As you can probably guess, Murphy has racked up quite a veterinary bill ($4300)and will require physical therapy at California Animal Rehabilitation Center at a cost of $2400!! Murphy hopes that everyone who reads his story will help AAA pay for his surgery and continued therapy by making a donation! Many thanks from Murphy!!

These dogs have been living at the LA County Baldwin Park Shelter for THREE YEARS. These innocent dogs are caught in a court case involving animal abuse and neglect. They have done nothing wrong other than having the misfortune of being hoarded by a woman who is being prosecuted for animal abuse and neglect.

On our first visit to Baldwin Park, we saw Basset Hounds, Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Pugs...all purebred. Who knew?? Pictured here is a one year old male pug, impounded on 1/31/09. His number is A3932673.
